Every Photo Tells a Story

5 / 10 / 111 / 15 / 16

When the girls were almost 2 and 6 yrs my friend, Nichole invited us to her church for a $10 photo session. It was so fun and cute as they got dressed up vintage style. The “free 8×10” turned into a whirlwind shopping spree. At the time I  begrudingly spent a lot money and felt a bit guilty.
Later that year in 2004 my husband was deployed to Iraq.  This photo became invaluable to him and was in his pocket at all times.   He kept his girls close and they were always in the back of his mind.
We were so grateful when he came home on leave. It was New Years Eve and he had traveled days to get to us.  When I picked him up at the airport and the tears dried I noticed a black garbage bag in his hand.  He told me it was my late Christmas present. It must have been pretty special to make the trip from Baghdad to Kuwait to Germany to Atlanta to Milwaukee.
Dec. 31, 2004
Well, it certainly was.  I couldn’t believe it when he unveiled a gorgeous 11×14 hand painted portrait of the girls.  In his job he came in contact with at least a thousand Iraqi Nationals every day. Apparently he came across a guy who painted pictures.  So, he handed that treasured wallet size photo over to him and got this in return for only $100!
Can you believe that?  The details are amazing and he captured the girls expressions perfectly.  To this day I am so glad we threw caution to the wind and invested in this photo session.  Who would have known it would all end up like this?
Aside from this hanging on my wall, the pictures had been stored away and forgotten.  When I saw the You & Me Kit Special from Close to my Heart all these memories came flooding back.
I am just in love with this paper! I love that I was able to make 2 complete layouts that were fully embellished and stunning.
I love the details. I didn’t have to go farther than this kit and a little ink to get these results
I also made this layout and can’t wait to put last year’s father’s day pictures in it. Ummm..right now I can’t find them-ugh!

Love this too. With the irresistables chipboard all you do is ink and the resist shows through. Isn’t it the best?

The pennant is chipboard and the little “spacers” are mocha opaques. How cute is that?

This kit was so fun to put together and all I did was follow the directions. Everything except the inks I used is in the kit!  Even the delicious striped ribbon- YUMMY!

Until Next Time-

13 Years Old and Full of Personality-Teen Scrapbook Layout

5 / 5 / 118 / 25 / 15

This is so fitting since today is my daughter, Savana’s 13th birthday. I know, your thinking, wow! she looks way too young to have a teenager (laughing hysterically at my joke).  I have a birthday tradition with my girls.  I do a little impromptu photo shoot in the yard.  I do this for a couple reasons; one, she is never crabby in the morning on her birthday and she always looks extra cute.

Here is the layout that I did at Studio J Bootcamp. We got the finished projects today and I was so pleased with the colors and the clarity.

The technique we learned was making your own pattern paper with my stickease. We used the same prinicples as if we had random stamped it, with flourishes and flowers hanging over the edge.
Can you believe that I created this layout with these paper choices?

Are you a bit confused? In this awesome Studio J program you can change paper colors.  The only color I kept was the chocolate.  If you look closely you can see the flourishes and flowers I used. I call this “automagical”  I really can’t wait to start teachning you all this EASY and FUN program.

Birthday Hat Mini Album

4 / 14 / 118 / 10 / 15

Have you ever made something so fun that you were just giddy over it?  I have jumped on the mini album band wagon and can’t wait to share it with you!  When I saw the My Creations Banner I instantly started to think of all the triangular shaped books I could make. The one that most excited me was making a birthday hat book.  So, I grabbed my Sophia papers and just started covering the pages and I had such a blast.

As my customers saw it and fell in love with it I knew I had to make a kit. So, first of all, here it is.  If you want to make your own, keep reading for class dates and options for my long distance friends.

Cost: $25.00
Includes: My Creations Banner, precut papers, embellishments- buttons, ribbon, sparkles and hemp.
Use of my stamps
Full color picture guide to follow along.

You will need to bring:
Adhesive- tape runner, glue pen and glue dots.
Scissors for trimming
Class fees must be paid for by April 30th so I can ensure kits are ready to go.

A boy version will also be available and will use Fanfare Level One Kit. Includes alphabet stickers and others. What does that mean for you? Less stamping!

I hope you will join us to make a fun, unique gift made from the heart.

Paper Easter Basket Design

4 / 6 / 1110 / 18 / 15

So proud of my team member, Chris who is a winner in the Make it From the Heart Contest that all consultants get to participate in.  First of all it is adorable.  To have the courage to submit it was awesome!  She had only been a consultant for a few months and figured she had nothing to lose. Well, she was right, she gained a $50 product credit and it is showcased on the Close to my Heart Website.  To get the details on the products used and to see a bunch more art work click here.

Blessed Coaster Tiles and Cards

4 / 1 / 111 / 15 / 16

We will be featuring April’s SOTM, which is Blessed, a set of  12 stamps. If you have come here from Annette’s Blog, you are on the right path!  This is simple to do – just click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move to the next one! Here we go!

I created 3 different projects using this stamp set.  Starting with this card.

Blessed Card with Kraft Cardstock_My Creative Cottage
I decided to go very simple, plus I was curious to see what stamping White Daisy pigment ink on kraft card stock would look like. I was pleasantly surprised and went with it.  I colored in the images with our ink markers and they really stood out. I added some mocha opaque embellishments to give it some dimension.

Another simple card with added Kraft Borders inked with cocoa ink.  I stamped directly on to the patterned paper.

Flower Card with Kraft Cardstock_My Creative Cottage
2 step stamps are great for projects like these coasters.

The images are stamped in black Staz On ink so it will not smudge.  Then I was able to stamp with colored Staz-On inside the outline.  It was really fun being able to stamp the solid image and then the outlined one. These were fast and easy to make. To seal the design I applied a spray sealant.

Blessed Floral Coasters_My Creative Cottage

Thanks for stopping!  Now “Hop” on over to Nicole’s Blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their Blogs to get some great crafting ideas and other fun ideas!
